How R&R Waste & Septic Enhances Water Treatment

Water Treatment is a critical component in ensuring the quality and safety of the water we use daily. With the growing concern about contaminants in water supplies, having an efficient treatment system is more important than ever. R&R Waste & Septic is at the forefront of providing advanced water treatment solutions that cater to both residential and commercial needs.

Why Is Water Treatment Important

Water treatment plays a pivotal role in safeguarding our health by removing contaminants that can lead to serious health issues. Drinking water contaminated with bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, or chemicals can result in gastrointestinal problems, neurological disorders, and other chronic illnesses. A robust treatment system helps eliminate these harmful substances, ensuring the water you consume and use is safe. Treated, filtered water not only benefits your health but also improves the taste and smell of your water, making it more enjoyable to drink. Unpleasant odors or tastes often deter people from drinking enough water, potentially leading to dehydration and other health problems. A good water treatment system can address these issues, encouraging better hydration habits. Beyond personal health, water treatment also has practical benefits for your household. Contaminants in water can lead to scale buildup in pipes and appliances, reducing their efficiency and lifespan. By removing minerals like calcium and magnesium, you can prevent the formation of  hard scale buildup, extending the life of your plumbing system, plumbing fixtures, and household appliances such as water heaters and dishwashers. Treated, filtered water is better for cooking and cleaning. It ensures that the ingredients you use are free from harmful substances, enhancing the quality and safety of your meals.

What Is Water Treatment?

Water treatment involves a series of methods designed to eliminate impurities and contaminants from water, making it safe for consumption and use in everyday activities. These methods can include physical processes like sedimentation and treatment, chemical processes such as adsorption and ion exchange, and biological processes like biotreatment. Different treatment systems are tailored to target specific contaminants. For instance, activated carbon filters are highly effective at removing chlorine, and organic compounds, and improving taste and odor. On the other hand, reverse osmosis systems use a membrane to filter out a wide range of contaminants, including dissolved salts and heavy metals. Various filters and systems are used to address issues like hard water, iron staining, and the presence of harmful microorganisms. These can range from simple pitchers with built-in filters to more sophisticated systems installed at the point of use or throughout the entire home. Each type of system has its own set of advantages, depending on the specific needs and water quality concerns of the user. Whether you’re dealing with sediment, microbial contaminants, or chemical pollutants, there is a water treatment solution available to meet your needs.

How to Remove Fluoride From Water With Water Treatment

Fluoride removal from water can be essential for households concerned about the potential health effects of excessive fluoride intake. There are several effective water treatment methods to reduce or eliminate fluoride content from your water supply. Reverse osmosis (RO) systems are among the most reliable options for fluoride removal. These systems use a semipermeable membrane to filter out fluoride ions along with other contaminants, providing clean and safe drinking water. Single point-of-use reverse osmosis units can be installed under the kitchen sink for convenient access to fluoride-free water. Also, certain specialized carbon filters can help reduce fluoride levels, although they are generally less effective than RO or activated alumina systems. It’s crucial to choose a filter specifically certified for fluoride removal. Consult with R&R Waste & Septic to determine the most suitable system for your household needs, ensuring you get the optimal solution for fluoride removal.

Types of Water Treatment Systems

There are several types of water treatment systems available, each suited for different needs. Single point of use reverse osmosis systems are perfect for purifying water at a specific location, like a kitchen sink, providing high-quality drinking water where you need it most. Water softeners are designed to tackle hard water issues by removing minerals such as calcium and magnesium, which can cause scale buildup in pipes and appliances. This can help extend the life of your plumbing and household devices. Iron removal filters specifically target the elimination of iron, preventing stains on fixtures and a metallic taste in your water. Additionally, backwash carbon filters are effective in reducing chlorine, and organic compounds, and improving the overall taste and odor of your water. These filters can significantly enhance the quality of water used for drinking, cooking, and cleaning. Each system can be tailored to address specific water quality concerns, ensuring you have access to clean and safe water for all your household activities. Consult with experts to determine the most appropriate system for your unique needs.

Water Treatment Maintenance

Maintaining your water treatment system is essential to ensure it continues to provide safe and clean water. Regular upkeep involves several key steps to keep the system functioning efficiently. First, it’s important to replace filters as recommended by the manufacturer. This ensures that your system effectively removes contaminants and operates at peak performance. Neglecting this step can result in reduced water quality and potential system damage. Periodically inspect your system for any signs of leaks or wear and tear. Catching these issues early can prevent costly repairs and ensure uninterrupted water treatment. Additionally, cleaning the system’s components, such as the housing and any storage tanks, helps to prevent buildup of contaminants and prolongs the life of the unit. Some treatment systems, particularly those using reverse osmosis or activated carbon, may require specific cleaning agents or procedures to maintain their efficacy. Always refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines or consult with professionals to avoid damaging your system. R&R Waste & Septic offers comprehensive maintenance designed to keep your system running smoothly. Their expert technicians are trained to handle various treatment technologies and can provide the necessary upkeep to ensure your water remains pure and safe for use.

Reverse Osmosis Maintenance

Regular maintenance of reverse osmosis (RO) systems is crucial for their optimal performance and longevity. Essential tasks include changing the pre-filters and post-filters every 6-12 months to ensure the system continues to effectively remove contaminants. The RO membrane itself, which is the core component responsible for treatment, typically needs replacement every 2-3 years depending on the water quality and usage. Regular sanitization of the system is also important to prevent bacterial growth and maintain water purity. Specific cleaning agents or procedures may be required, so always refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines to avoid damaging the system. Additionally, periodic inspections can help identify potential issues early, such as leaks or wear and tear, preventing more significant problems down the line. By adhering to these maintenance practices, you can ensure that your reverse osmosis system remains reliable and provides you with the highest quality water. For those who prefer professional assistance, R&R Waste & Septic offers specialized maintenance services tailored to your system’s needs, providing peace of mind and sustained water quality.

FAQ's

A whole house water filter system uses carbon, a sediment filter and media filters to remove harmful contaminants from your water supply.  For areas that have hard water, we can add a water softener that helps prevent scale building on your appliances and faucets, improve the quality of water and makes your skin and hair feel softer.  At the main drinking source, water is pumped through a reverse-osmosis system that uses filtration, carbon and a semi-permeable membrane to remove harmful contaminants such as lead, fluoride, chlorine and dissolved salts.

During filtration, water filters can be used to remove toxins such as pesticides, pathogens, sand, sediment, mercury and lead.  A properly installed and maintained reverse-osmosis system can remove almost all of contaminants from your water source.  A reverse-osmosis system is a great way to remove fluoride from your water.

Water Softeners True to form, Ionic Exchanging, Whole House, Water Softeners have been the standard for many years.  While the media used has become more advanced and the controllers are now computerized, water softeners are still using the same tried and true method for removing the hard minerals that build up on plumbing fixtures and dishes.  Soften water will reduce scaling on dishes and fixtures, it will allow soaps and detergents to efficiently and effectively create more suds and will clean/wash dishes, clothing, skin and hair without leaving hard mineral deposits and soap scum.

Backwashing Carbon Filters– These whole house granular filters will aid in the removal of larger sediment and remove chlorine and other harmful chemicals including trihalomethanes which are the byproduct of chemical water purification.  These filters will backwash automatically.  This backwash process will remove unwanted debris build up and will lengthen the effective life of the carbon by periodically changing the path of water through the filter.  These are a MUST if you are using city water and want to have a water softener installed.

Iron Removing Filters (Iron Breakers)– These Whole house filters remove iron from the water with a granular media bed and removes the rotten egg smell.  These filters will backwash every 2 to 3 days removing iron and sediment from the media and forming a new air pocket for the removal of Hydrogen sulfide, a byproduct of sulfur reducing bacteria.

Reverse Osmosis– This point of use water treatment system fits nicely under a kitchen sink and removes virtually all impurities from the water making these the perfect treatment systems for cooking and drinking water.  While results will vary a little, the reverse osmosis system we installed at our office is dropping the Total Dissolved Solids count from 546ppg to 14ppm.

How do I know which water purification system is best for me?

There are many factors that determine the correct system for your situation and family.  The first step is to call R & R to set up a water test.  We will conveniently schedule one of our technicians to come to your house and test for total dissolved solids, iron, pH, hardness, chlorine, lead and fluoride.

Yes.  Using a pressured water source, a reverse osmosis system can remove most of the harmful contaminants in the water source.  A reverse osmosis system uses a semi-permeable membrane that has a pore size of 0.0001 microns. This ensures that larger molecules, such contaminants and sediment, are separated from pure water.

Replacing your water filter should be done every 12 – 24 months.  Replacing your filters on a regular basis is one of the best ways you can avoid costly repairs to your water and plumbing systems.  Changing the filters on a regular basis can also save you money by improving your water flow and reducing water waste.  If you are unable or prefer to have the filters changed on a regular basis, R & R can set you up on a maintenance schedule to ensure your filtration and reverse-osmosis system are properly maintained.

Water purification systems require yearly maintenance.  Water purification systems can be classified as filtration systems, water softeners or reverse-osmosis systems.  To keep your water purification system at an optimal level the filters need to be inspected and cleaned every 6 – 12 months.  A reverse-osmosis system should be cleaned and inspected every 6 – 12 months.  The exact maintenance schedule may change based on the incoming water supply.

R & R Waste and Septic does provide water filtration maintenance programs.  Properly maintaining your filtration, softener and reverse-osmosis systems ensures your water stays safe to drink, reduces premature failure of system components and can save you money by reducing water flow and water waste.

For water that has a high level of dissolved solids we recommend a whole house filtration system.  The whole house filter system will use a series of filter to remove sediment and dissolved solids in the water.  If your water source has hard water, we would recommend adding a water softener system to the home or business.  A water softener will reduce the hardness of the water by using salt and media which in turn will remove calcium and magnesium.  Most people will immediately notice their water no longer lives a film and their skin feels softer.  Additionally, the water softener can help reduce scale buildup in your pipes and appliances.

We do not recommend installing a whole-house reverse-osmosis system. Reverse-osmosis systems are ideal for single point of use treatment.  Reverse-osmosis systems can remove 90% – 99% of harmful containments and minerals from the water source.  A properly maintained reverse-osmosis system does such a great job of removing minerals from the water that the water is “starved”. For homes with copper pipes, the reverse-osmosis water will start leaching minerals out of lead pipes.  For this reason, we do not recommend a whole house reverse-osmosis system.  We believe reverse osmosis point of use system offer incredible benefits and should be installed near the main drinking source.  We know many customers that install one reverse-osmosis system at the kitchen sink and another for the ice maker.

It depends on who you ask.  Some large water purification companies seem to be more focused on profits than the customer well-being.  R & R wants to provide every customer with high quality water purification system at a competitive price.  R&R has been serving West Texas for 40 years and are dedicated to the region.  R & R can install and provide maintenance contracts to ensure your water filtration, softener and reverse-osmosis systems operate at maximum efficiency.

Water is subjective but we believe the answer is yes.  Many customers report having a slight smell to their water.  Through our various cleaning and purification methods (filtration, softeners, reverse-osmosis) the water is stripped of many of the harmful contaminants that may cause an ‘off’ taste.
